Internal and external oil refinement

In addition to refining our own product oils, which we obtain from chemical recycling (plastic-to-oil), we also buy contaminated oil to refine it into high-quality specialist oils. Most of the waste oil comes from the automotive industry. A smaller proportion comes from the shipping industry or from private heating oil tanks. We ensure that these waste oils are not simply incinerated or sent to landfill, but returned to the cycle.

We process the following waste oils:

Bilge oil

Bilge oil or bilge water is an oil-water mixture that can consist of different types of oil. Oil-water mixtures are typically found in cleaning agents, engine or lubricating oils and fuels. Bilge oil is created, for example, by unavoidable leaks in drive shafts or when water enters due to a leak.

Oil sludge from engine and machine oil

Oil sludge is caused by the accumulation of metallic debris, combustion residues, etc. in engine or machine oil. When the oil is changed, the contaminated engine or machine oil is replaced to prevent deposits that can lead to poorer protection or overheating of the engine.

Waste mixtures

Waste mixtures of heating oils and diesel are produced during regular tank cleaning or when disposing of a tank. As the name suggests, they are waste products and cannot be reused.

Process in 2 steps

Oil refining is the process of processing crude oil to obtain various refined oil products (oil derivatives).

Filtration

The first step involves the separation of solid particles. Distillation can only take place once the solids have been removed.

Distillation

The input material is heated in a distillation column, causing it to vaporise. The lighter molecules condense at the top of the column and are drawn off as condensates, while the heavier fractions are removed as (heavy oil component).

Refining usually takes place in an industrial context. We can currently process up to 3 tonnes per day with our plant, but are aiming for a capacity of 25 tonnes per day after the expansion at the German site in Hoyerswerda.

End products

The products that enespa produces are currently sold in Germany. Our plants can produce middle distillates and heavy oils. The entire oil refining process is geared towards obtaining high-quality products with the desired properties from the input material waste. Our end products are returned to the plastics cycle.
