enespa and Nexergy sign EPC contract for first pyrolysis project in Great Britain

Appenzell, Switzerland / London, United Kingdom – enespa ag and its British partner Nexergy Holdings PLC have signed their first EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contract as part of their strategic partnership announced in September. This contract forms the basis for the planning and implementation of the UK's first pyrolysis project for converting plastic waste into oil – from technical planning and procurement to construction, commissioning, and handover to Nexergy – all from a single source.

The first Nexergy plant is planned for Peterborough in Cambridgeshire. It will have a total of six enespa pyrolysis plants, achieving a total throughput of approximately 30 tons of plastic waste per 24 hours, making the project one of the largest of its kind.

For Nexergy, this step marks an important milestone on the path from planning to implementation. It supports the company's strategy to build a scalable and modular infrastructure that transforms plastic waste into valuable products while simultaneously strengthening domestic capacities in the field of advanced recycling and circular economy solutions.

The commissioning of the plants is planned for 2026 – subject to the usual project procedures and approvals.

Cyrill Hugi, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of enespa AG:

“We are delighted that the project has reached an important milestone. Our partnership with Nexergy is a significant step forward – both in terms of the project's scope and reach. Together, we aim to firmly establish chemical recycling in Great Britain and are convinced that in Nexergy we have found a partner who shares our convictions.”

Nick Hodson, CEO of Nexergy Holdings PLC:

“Today’s announcement is a major step forward. This EPC agreement establishes a solid supply structure with an experienced technology partner and brings Nexergy decisively into the construction phase for our first site in the UK.”

Appenzell, Switzerland

The Swiss company enespa ag and the British company Nexergy Holding PLC have agreed on a strategic collaboration. They aim to accelerate the expansion of plastics recycling in the UK, thereby closing a key gap in the domestic circular economy.

New generation of advanced recycling plants

At the heart of the collaboration is a shared commitment to building a new generation of advanced recycling facilities across the United Kingdom. enespa contributes its proven pyrolysis systems, technical expertise, and future-oriented technology roadmap, while Nexergy provides project and site development, supply, and operational management. Together, the two companies aim to deliver facilities that not only meet the UK's stringent environmental standards but also offer long-term industrial resilience and value creation.

Deepened strategic alliance

The partnership also signals a deeper strategic intent: to move beyond pure technology provision to a lasting industrial alliance, with both partners actively exploring frameworks for joint investments and shared ownership. enespa and Nexergy are positioning themselves to offer an integrated model that combines technology, capital, and operational excellence on a single collaboration platform.

At its core, the agreement reflects a common goal: to develop profitable, scalable projects that transform plastic waste into valuable products, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and accelerate the transition to a sustainable circular economy.
