Karhu PlastEco project
Key figures
- So far 1 plastic-to-oil plant with a capacity of 5 tons/day
- PlastEco's investment in the project, including the enespa production plant, is approximately EUR 2,5 million.
- Approx. EUR 1,5 million in sales in 2025 (sales of pyrolysis oil)
- from 2026 approx. EUR 1,7 million per P5 machine
At the heart of the project is the strategic partnership between enespa technologies ag in Appenzell and PlastEco Ltd. in Lahti, Finland. The enespa ag subsidiary will hold a 40% stake. PlastEco is increasing its capital to this end. At the same time, the enespa Group will appoint two representatives to the Board of Directors of PlastEco Ltd. Dr. Joachim Vogt, COO of the enespa Group, and Ben Richters, CTO, will work at PlastEco and promote close and targeted cooperation between the two companies.
Strategic goal
The partnership with PlastEco opens up the Finnish market for us. We plan to deliver additional systems annually in the future, thus continuously expanding our capacity and correspondingly increasing our sales.
Why Karhu?
With the "Karhu" project, enespa is launching its first project in Finland. Karhu is the Finnish word for brown bear. Finland's national animal symbolizes the still untouched and functioning natural world, which we aim to preserve together with our Finnish partner.
About PlastEco
Founded in 2022, the Finnish start-up PlastEco Ltd. recycles plastic waste through chemical recycling, always using the most modern technology available in the industry. PlastEco's vision is to become a leading plastic recycling company in Finland and the surrounding regions by 2030.
Unlike competitors who rely on centralized, high-capacity plants, PlastEco offers decentralized solutions. These allow for flexible scaling and can be deployed at sites with moderate initial investments and medium-sized amounts of plastic waste or limited pretreatment capacity.
PlastEco relies on our pyrolysis technology and cooperates closely with local stakeholders to efficiently process plastic waste and return it to the recycling cycle. They rely on an extensive network and extensive knowledge of the local market. This enables PlastEco to source feedstock cost-effectively from surrounding communities, which not only minimizes operating costs but also ensures short transport routes and resource-efficient logistics.
